Radio Belize Reloaded?
posted (July 4, 2011)
For those of us of a certain age, there's no forgetting the Radio Belize days. Well the music from that era is making a comeback at MOOD FM - a new oldies radio station in Lord's Bank Village.

106.3 Mood FM opened last week and former radio Belize announcer in the 60's and 70's Kenneth Moody says the family-oriented station will feature country, R&B, soul, reggae, disco, hip hop, romanticos, and rancheras from the past.

He told Monica Bodden more:

Kenneth Mood - Station Manager/Owner
"I wanted it to be an oldies station, but also a community station with news, a lot of community programs and stuff. We start off in the mornings with country and western music, and then go into Belizean music with a program called "Belizean Times". It's an hour in the morning, and two hours in the evening - at night 6 - 8 p.m. After that we have morning moods, the songs from the 50's and 60's, and then in the afternoon its more rhythms type, a little faster pace. And we intend 2 hours of Spanish programs too, and soul music in the evening and night. On weekends, we plan to try to do a lot of community programs, talks. People can come in and talk about different things going on in the community and surrounding areas, and we also want to have a program like a 'swap & shop', where people can call in, and they have something that they want to give away at their home, they want to sell stuff, they can call in, put it on the air, and leave a phone number. Our coverage area is Burrell Boom, Sand Hill, Lords Bank, Ladyville, Belize City, and the surrounding areas. I would say like a 20 mile radius. Well even before i started working at Radio Belize, I was interested in Broadcasting. I worked at the Post Office during the years when Radio Belize was upstairs, and I used to go up there all the time. So I was really into broadcasting; I love broadcasting. Well I also wanted to have a station of my own."

The station's current coverage includes Ladyville, Belize City, and surrounding areas such as Burrell Boom, Sand Hill, and Hattieville villages.
