Belize International Designers Put Fashionistas On Parade
posted (July 11, 2011)
Last week we told you about the Belize Design Marketplace. It culminated with a fashion show on Thursday night. Here's how it looked on the catwalk:

Jackie Castillo, Creative Industry Dev Officer - NICH
"What the fashion show did was allow us to show everyone the designs in movement because of course for the expo we had the pieces on stands and on mannequins. What the fashion show allows us to do was to add movement to the fabric for people to see how the fabric fits - to see what they would like to purchase. The runway show showcases something that people in Belize have not seen before. Calling us local takes away a lot of the quality of the work that these people have done and we would prefer to say Belizean rather than local because its Belizean but it can be represented across the world and we can stand on par with everyone that has been creating or designing for the past "omteen" years and people were amazed by what they saw. The colors - it was vibrant, it was beautiful, it was dynamic and I think it was unexpected. I think they always think that when we are Belizean we have to be mediocre or sub-par but what they saw was above anything that I have personally seen in Belize and this is only a stepping stone towards us elevating and having even more and better designers for design week next year."
