Hubby Killer Pook Could Get Parole
posted (July 20, 2011)
She was convicted of killing her husband by setting him on fire, but unlike Nora Parham 50 years ago - Viola Pook will not hang for it, in fact, she could get parole!

The 54 year old appeared in the Supreme Court before Justice Herbert Lord today for her sentencing.

She was sentenced to life imprisonment - which should take effect on her date of conviction July eighth, and that she should be eligible for parole after 21 years.

Before he delivered the sentence, Justice Lord heard submissions from Pook's attorney Hubert Elrington who noted that the crown did not ask for the death penalty and that Pook had no other convictions.

On New Year's eve, 2008, in Rancho Dolores, Pook set fire to her common law husband, a younger man, 46 year old Orlando Vasquez. He received first and second degree burns to 70% of his body and died two days later.
