When Rowan Garel made his historic trek up Victoria Peak, becoming the first visually impaired person to make it to the roof of Belize, he did it to fundraise for the BCVI summer camp.
Today the fruits of his effort were on display at the last day for BCVI's blind and visually impaired summer camp. The camp which was held for 2 weeks - hosted over 30 visually impaired children from across the country. This year's theme was "Exploring Technology" and focused on exercises in computers, typing, internet and voice recording. "We've been having summer camp for two weeks now, its ending tomorrow and this is sort of the culmination to the whole coverage of Rowan climbing Victoria Peak to raise funds - to raise awareness and it's because of his that we've been able to have this two week event where we have children from throughout the country as well as Belize City to learn the skills that they need for next year or the upcoming school year as well as take part in extracurricular activities and field
trips. Educationally we are offering courses in brail, math skills, cube rhythms, slate and stylus, abacus and computer classes."

"We have about 40 campers this year and depending on their ages they are accompanied by a sibling, parent or guardian."
