A ten year old girl with a physical disability is in protective custody tonight after her parents left her home alone and locked up. According to court reports, on Saturday July twenty-third, neighbors of forty seven year old Albert Gentle and thirty two year old Diana Gentle informed authorities that the couple had not only left their daughter alone, but had locked the door from the inside. When police officers and a social worker arrived at the Holy Emmanuel Street home, they had to break the padlock on the door to get to the child. The Belize City couple appeared in court today and both pleaded not guilty to the charge of Child Neglect. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser granted them each bail of fifteen hundred dollars. The Gentles are scheduled to reappear in court on September 27th.
