A Sick Man In Succotz
posted (July 25, 2011)
San Jose Succotz - it's the village right before Benque Viejo which is famous for the Xuanantunich Mayan site right across the Mopan river.

As far as Western Villages go - it's one of the largest - but it's also very peaceful and easygoing. And that's why an event last week Thursday night has left everybody shaken and stunned.

Roy Cummerbatch from Plues Street in Belize City was beaten to within inches of his life by villagers after he allegedly tried to sexually molest a 14 year old boy.

Cummerbatch is known in the village as the birth-paper man, he goes around telling folks he can get them birth papers, if they don't have. And he delivers, but an event on Thursday indicates that Cummerbatch may have been using that familiarity to prey on a 14 year old boy. He failed, but what happened to him after that in the hands of a village mob is another story altogether.

Monica Bodden spoke to the boy and his family today - and here's the story:…

"You are also proud of yourself for speaking out because he may have done this to other young men right?"

Victim

Monica Bodden Reporting
The incident happened on Thursday night around 7:30 in the village of Succotz.

This 14 year old boy, told us he was being fondled and asked to perform anal sex by a man identified as Roy Cumberbatch - a resident of Belize City.

Cumberbatch - who says he is a process server - and no stranger to the village came to the 14 year old minor's house to collect money for a copy of a birth corticated that the family had requested.

According to the child's mother, night had already set in when it was time for Cumberbatch to leave and so Cumberbatched asked if her son could walk him out to the front of the village since the area had no electricity.

Clarita De La Fuente, Mother
"I went and gave him 50 dollars for the birth certificate. When I finish paid him, he asked me if my son can accompany him. As a mother I didn't think nothing was going to go wrong. I wasn't scared to send him. I told my son to walk with him. I started to feel nervous when I notice 10, 15 minutes passed and he didn't come back home."

"My two younger children and I went to look for him. I thought maybe he already killed my son; I didn't thought of anything else. I saw two persons standing far ahead. I ran towards them and I saw my son and the man pulling up their pants. I shouted what are you doing to my son and he told me nothing, nada."

The 14 year old minor is accusing Cumberbatch of pulling down his pants and touching his penis.

Today the little boy in an off camera interview and with consent of his mother told us Roy Cumberbatch pulled down his own pants, and asked the boy to have sex with him. When the 14 year old refused and tried to run, he was pulled back.

"When me and the man came out of my house, say like at a distance from where I am sitting to around the corner he asked me which collage I attend and I said Mount Carmel. He then told me he made pants and shirt and began measuring me. He took my pants measurement from my waist down to my foot and from my waist up for the measure of my shirt."

"After that we continued walking. While walking, he asked me if I wanted to hear a secret. I didn't think that the secret would have been bad. The man laughed while asking me. I said yes, and the man asked me if I wanted to go to La Puerta Negra. The man told me he had two laptops but he only used one and said he would give me one of the laptops if I went with him to Puerta Negra. He said he would give me a scholarship for two hundred and fifty dollars every month."

"We continued walking and the man asked me if I had a passport, I told him no. Then he told me, if I wanted, he would get me a passport. All I needed was a social security card and a birth certificate to take out a passport. I told him yes. He asked me if I could go with him. I told him I can't because I have nothing to do there. We continued walking and we stopped by the football field and he begun touching me. I didn't left myself, I pushed his hands away. Then he took off his pants quickly. I wanted to run away but I couldn't because I felt my foot heavy. He pulled down my pants quickly. When he saw I didn't left myself, he grabbed me by force. He wanted to have sex with me by force but I didn't left myself. My mother shouted what are you doing with my son? She came running where we were and I ran towards her."

"And we were running back home and he was following us and my mom told him to give her back the 50 dollars she gave him and she told him she will report him to the police."

The 14 year old minor and his mother called the police but when police arrived, Cumberbatch was nowhere to be found.
