Brazen armed robbery on Punta Gorda's Main Street nets thieves $1,500

Brazen armed robberies are a fact of life in Belize City but one such incident in the country's southernmost town has left traumatized that community. Reports are that around eight-thirty Tuesday night, two masked men stormed into Quian Zen Store on Main Street in Punta Gorda town and demanded money. One of the assailants was armed with a handgun, which he used to threaten the female cashier. The frightened woman handed over more than fifteen hundred dollars in cash and coins. The thieves also made off with a passport belonging to one of the store's owners before running out of the shop and disappearing into the night. Up to news time police investigations into the incident had not netted any suspects.
