Three archaeological sites in the Cayo District will get makeovers
posted (July 27, 2011)
In news from the tourism sector, today the Sustainable Tourism Program announced that three of the Cayo district's most popular archaeological attractions will be upgraded. The improvements will include the replacement of the hand-cranked ferry at the Mopan River crossing to get to the Xunantunich archaeological site; a visitor center at Cahal Pech; and bathroom and changing facilities at the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave.

Today a contract for just under a hundred and twenty thousand dollars was signed with local architecture and engineering firm Incatema Consulting, who will complete the architectural designs and interpretation plans for the sites. The initiative is part of the Belize Tourism Board's "Belize 2012. A new beginning" campaign.
