COMPOL Knocked Down Man; Victim Under Suspicion
posted (August 8, 2011)
Commissioner of Police Crispin Jeffries knocked down a man on a motorcycle on Friday afternoon in Belize city. But tonight the news is that the victim is the only one being served with a notice of intended prosecution.

According to an official police report, at 1:40 in the afternoon Commissioner Jeffries was driving his D-Max pick-up from Hattieville towards Belize City.

At the junction of Faber's Road and the highway, he claims a small motorcycle driven by 40 year old Vince Parks which was travelling in the opposite direction, made a what police say is a sudden U-turn in front of the pick-up, and Jeffries crashed into it. The impact sent Parks flying across the pavement. He was cut to the back of his head and received abrasions on his elbow.

The police confirm that Parks has been served with a notice of intended prosecution. Now, from our experience, in a case where blame is arguable, both parties are served with notices of intended prosecution. But in this case where Compol Jeffries essentially rear ended the motorcyle - blame has been assessed - it appears - with Parks, who was knocked down.

COMPOL Jeffries did not answer our calls to him today.

It's also been confirmed with Police that a there was a collision between Mile 5 and Mile 6 on the Northern Highway on Saturday.

It involved a gold 2010 Toyota Four Runner, and a white 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. The Forerunner was being driven by Marvin Deras known as "Big Spanish", a Krem Radio DJ while the Land Cruiser was being driven by Lyndon Guiseppe, CEO of the British Caribbean Bank.

No one was seriously hurt, but Deras sought medical attention for a foot injury at Belize Medical Associates.
