Home Invasions In City & Coro: One Foiled
posted (August 15, 2011)
There are two stories of home invasions coming out of the weekend.

The first happened in Belize City where 22 year old City Council Special Constable PHILIPA GONZALEZ, reported that at 4:45 on Sunday morning she and her common-law husband were asleep inside their home in the Collet area when woke up to find a masked, armed man standing over her in her bedroom. She handed over her jewelry and the man then rode off on her bicycle. No one has been detained. But on Saturday in the Corozal district home invaders didn't get off so easy. At 7:20pm three armed men entered a house in Chan Chen Village - which is the northern most village in the country, just south of the Santa Elena border.

One of the men was armed with a 16-gauge shotgun and the other two were armed with machetes. One of the machete men lashed the home owner across his back and over his body.

But they called for help and neighbors ran to the scene and disarmed the gunman who was handed over to Police. The pair of machete wielding men escaped before Police Arrived. Police retrieved a 16-gauge shotgun with one 16-gauge cartridge, and have detained 30 year old JOSE CANO, a laborer of Corozal Town pending charges.

And there was no home invasion in Hattieville, but it was worse than that for a woman who was shot in her bed on Sunday night. It happened in the Bainsville Area where 31 year old GERALDINE CASTILLO, was shot to the lower back and left ankle. At 10:55, Castillo was in bed inside her mobile home when four gunshots rang out. Police found a large hole in her fence and several pellet marks on the wall of the mobile home.
