Joy Juice Jacked
posted (September 1, 2011)
And then, this afternoon in the city, armed robbers were at it again. Around 3:00 pm, three men strode into Joy Juice Headquarters on Cemetery Road and robbed the place. No one was hurt, as the gunman brandished his weapon and went straight for the cash drawer - where he met no resistance.

When we visited, the employees were traumatized but their boss was more circumspect.

The juice chain's owner Steven Okeke says it is the fifteenth time one of his business has been robbed or burgled and this time, he won't even report it:..

Steven Okeke, Entrepreneur
"Right now they are pretty traumatized because we have been burglarized and rob almost 15 times since we started this business. It's quite dis-heartening but, we don't know what to do next, because there is nobody to go to, and the guys are just fearless and sometimes reckless and we just don't know what to do, but to just move ahead. We don't even want to report anymore because it's like they are the government -they dictate everything, they decide who dies and who lives and who does business. It's so dangerous, because a customer coming in could just have erupted the whole situation."

Jules Vasquez
"So how will you get your workers to continue tomorrow, how will you invest them with the confidence?"

Steven Okeke, Entrepreneur
"Well, we just have to continue because this is the new Belize man. You don't have to hide you head in the hole, this is the new Belize, and the new Belize from what you see around every day you wake up and come out on the street you are a dead man, until you go home alive, even in your own house you are dead every day until you go home alive, even in your own house you are dead every day until you go home alive - that the new Belize. So if you say well, I am getting rob so I won't come to work again, well you'll be shot in the streets anyways or in your own home, so this is the new Belize, so you have to deal with reality."

About a half hour after that - we got another report that a business on Neal's Pen Road was also robbed at gunpoint….
