Man Dies By Gunshot To Head In Cayo: Homicide Or Suicide?
posted (December 8, 2011)
This morning in Cayo - a man was found dead in his home; he had been killed with a single gunshot to the head. But it may not be a homicide; Police suspect that he may have killed himself.

But, the family thinks otherwise. Monica Bodden was in Cayo and she has the story:..

Monica Bodden reporting
49 year old Thomas Reyes Senior - was found dead in his living quarters at his work station this morning. Reyes who was the supervisor at SOS Security in Cayo was found by one of his friends at around 8:30 this morning.

The last time he was seen alive was around 10 yesterday morning. After that no one saw him. Many people who live in the neighborhood said they noticed that the volume of his Television set was turned up extremely loud and the doors in his living quarters remained closed.

It seemed rather suspicious for many of them - but no one heard the one gun shot that took this 49 year old man's life.

Samuel Bonilla - brother of decease
"There was a gunshot wound to the right side of his head that exited to the left side of his head. I was here about after 9 this morning. I was travelling from Dangriga heading to Belize City on my day off when I receive the news from Assistant Superintendent of Police 2nd in Command here in Cayo that my brother has passed away."

"I was briefed by the investigating officer Sgt. Barrow along with the Officer Commanding Cayo Mrs. Willis and Mr. Mai, they gave me certain information as to what they found on the scene and how the scene looked and that they are doing their investigation at the moment."

Monica Bodden
"Have police ruled out that it is a suicide?"

Samuel Bonilla
"No they haven't, they are treating it as a homicide investigation."

Reyes was found lying partially on his back on his mattress in a pool of blood ,both feet on the ground - with a gunshot wound to the head.

Next to him on the bed was a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 13 live 9mm rounds and a gold wedding band and a letter addressed to his wife with the words "to the love of my life."

Samuel Bonilla
"Information according to the investigators are that he was last seen alive yesterday morning sometime after 10am and after that no one has say if he was seen alive."

Monica Bodden
"He was found by who?"

Samuel Bonilla
"He was found by his neighbor who went to check on him this morning, that's when they discovered that he was lying on his bed apparently dead. He just stayed there, that's where he normally stays when he is in Cayo but he lives in Dangriga."

Monica Bodden
"He was working for a security company at the same location?"

Samuel Bonilla
"He was working for SOS Security Company. The main branch is in Belize City, they also have work at this location, so he is in charge at this location."

Monica Bodden
"What is your belief? Do you think that it may have been a case of suicide or you think that your brother was murdered?"

Samuel Bonilla
"I want to stay neutral; I don't want cast no verdict as yet. I just want the police to do a proper investigation and then and whatsoever they come about and they communicate with us then we as the family will be satisfied with it."

Monica Bodden
"How would you describe your brother?"

Samuel Bonilla
"He was the best friend I could ever have, we would laugh and have fun, he was a joyous person."

Thomas Reyes Sr leaves behind his wife and his son. Tomorrow the family will meet with the BDF to finalize arrangements for the former Sargeant.
