posted (December 19, 2011)
A 38 year old mother of four will spend Christmas in jail after she pleaded guilty to possession of small amount of crack cocaine. Joyce Godoy - a domestic of the Hattieville area - appeared in the number two magistrate's court where she pleaded guilty to possession of 0.1 grammes of crack cocaine.

She was fined five hundred dollars by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser - but because she was unable to pay outstanding court fines of three thousand dollars and three hundred tor two previous drug convictions, she was taken to prison to begin serving terms of three years and three months consecutively. She will also serve another six months if she does not pay the five hundred dollar fine. Her common law husband 57 year old Robert Galvez was charged jointly with her. And although the charge against him was withdrawn when she pleaded guilty, he too was taken to prison for an outstanding fine of three hundred dollars. He is also a parolee - so his fate is now I the hands of the parole board.

The crack was found when police searched Galvez's house on Saturday. Godoy said she doesn't smoke drugs, but she had the crack because she had a toothache and she was told it would ease the pain if she put it in her tooth.
