Chendo Sr. Will Continue In Politics
posted (December 20, 2011)
Rosendo Chendo Urbina Sr. has returned to Belize after fleeing the country two weeks ago.

He today held a meeting with his Party Leader Dean Barrow at his Belize City office in the Whitley Building to discuss his political future.

The meeting lasted for about an hour and when he came out Urbina declined an interview but told reporters that he is still in the running and his candidacy remains alive.

Party Leader Dean Barrow confirmed this and told us via phone that his only concern was for Urbina's safety - and once the former ambassador to Mexico confirmed that he feels good going forward, he - as Party Leader - was not about to stand in the candidate's way. As was first reported two weeks ago, Urbina and his family fled the country after his son, Rosendo Jr. and his wife Becky were held up by a group of mean as they left the family's lavish retreat in Honey Camp Laggoon. No one was hurt - but the men did issue threats and demand money.

The entire family decamped to Houston and no arrests have been made - but it appears Chendo Sr is satisfied that the threat has either subsided or has reached a manageable stage - enough for him to go back into full-time campaigning.
