And one San Pedro business owner is giving the gift of education. Mukul Kanabar owns Paradise Management, Blue Water Grill, Caliente Red Ginger, Wine Divine and the Phoenix Resort.

He employs 93 employees across all his businesses and he's offering high school tuition scholarships to one child of each employee. That's 79 scholarships over a ten year period - and he told our colleagues at the San Pedro sun more:

Mukul Kanabar
"The program is to offer each employee one full scholarship to San Pedro high school for one of their children. In 2011 the current school year that will be 13 full scholarships. Our staff currently has 79 children in primary school, so the scope of this project is going to grow large over the next 5-10 years. Selfishly having more educated people, more kids here with high school diplomas helps us. Those are the kids, those are the men and women that we will be hiring in years to come."

In the first phase of the program which started this year, 13 students will benefit from the scholarship program that will cost approximately $25,000.00 in the first year.

The businesses are owned by Kanabar and his wife Kelly McDermott Kanabar.
