Two Men Accused Of Wife/Ex-Wife Attacks Get Bail
posted (December 21, 2011)
Two men accused of crimes against their present or former female companions will be home for Christmas after both separately got bail today.

The bail applications were heard in the courtroom of Justice Dennis Hanoomansingh.

Kent Ninja Mack Mckenzie is one of the applicants. On November 21st, he allegedly stabbed Woman Police constable and his ex, Delia Hyde, while she was on duty, in uniform inside the Dangriga Police Station. She had secured a committal warrant for him for outstanding child support payments.

Though he faced a committal warrant at the time of the stabbing, police did not arrest Mckenzie - they allowed him to drive himself to the station. According to accounts, he simply walked into the station - without a police escort or handcuffs - and stabbed Hyde.

In an interview after the stabbing, WPC Hyde told 7news that she feared for her life after the stabbing because if he stabbed her, while she was in the station in her uniform, then anything can happen outside the station.

Another woman who fears for her life is Marta Wagner. Her husband Felipe also stabbed her - it happened on a street in Orange Walk in November.

At a bail hearing that started last week, the Prosecution objected to bail for Wagner because it was feared that he may try to harm the complainant again.

The DPP's Office filed three affidavits in support of the objection. One gave an account of several previous reports showing a history of physical abuse. Another was from the victim Martha Wagner, who detailed the stabbing and also discussed the persistent abuse that she endured.

However, the judge granted Wagner bail of $10,000.00 and two sureties of the same amount, on the basis that Wagner would not be living with the complainant again, but would be residing with his mother in San Pablo Village, which was one of the conditions of the bail.

In a side note, Justice Hannoomansingh also today granted bail for today for a 36 year old man accused of the carnal knowledge of a 14 year old girl in the Stann Creek District.

We can't use his name because it may lead to the identity of the child.

But - it's not your regular case of molestation. He lives with the girl and they share a young child. When the teenager went to the clinic with her newborn, the medical authorities contacted the social services which led to the charge for carnal knowledge.

The bail hearing started last week and today, attorney for the accused Oscar Sabido secured bail of five thousand dollars on the undertaking that he would ensure that there is no contact, sexual or otherwise between the accused and the complainant until the conclusion of this case.

Notably, the issue of the age of consent came up in court - as to whether the accused could marry the girl - but under the amendment of the Marriage Act of 2005, children below the age of 16 are not capable, legally, not even with consent, to marry.
