Bar Held Up; Culprit Caught With Weapon

A Chinese businessman closing up after the Christmas night spree - was targeted by armed robbers. Around 3 a.m. on December 26. Chinese businessman Xin Ye Zhang, the owner of Lips Bar, located at 119 Newtown Barracks, was at his business when several men entered, one of them toting a firearm.

They held him up at gunpoint and the culprits stole seven hundred dollars and assorted Digicell and Smart phone cards, valued at five hundred dollars. Police were quick to respond and shortly afterwards they apprehended Keith Williams and found him with one .25 pistol without any ammunition.

And so today, 25 year old Keith Williams, a security guard of 11th Street and 31 year old Bassel Gordon, a self-employed of St Thomas Street were charged with robbery when they appeared in Magistrate's Court.

Williams was also charged with kept firearm without a gun license. Gordon and Williams pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Bail was denied because of the nature of the offences. They were remanded them into custody until February 8.
