Former Cop Shot By Cop Gets Off
posted (December 30, 2011)
He was a former cop - shot by the cops - and then criminally charged - but today Dennis Carr left court a free man. His troubles started in June of this year when Carr was riding on a bicycle on Central American Boulevard when he was accosted by police. Carr said he jumped off his bicycle and ran because he had a handful of cannabis tucked in his pants.

But Sargeant Gongora said Carr attacked him with a pair of scissors and that's why he shot him in the back of his right heel. He said he also found 9 millimeter ammunition in the area.

Apart from his injury, Carr was charged for kept ammunition without a gun license and aggravated assault. The case went to trial today where after having heard the evidence adduced by the prosecution and the testimony of Carr, Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser sadi she was not convinced that Carr assaulted Sergeant Santiago Gongora with a pair of scissors. She said she was convinced however, that Seargeant Gongora had to find a reason why he shot Carr in his heel.

As regards the ammunition charge, Senior Magistrate Fraser said that even if the force armourer was to have testified, she would not have called on Carr to answer to the charge because there was no evidence that any of the police officers saw him throw anything. With that, he was acquitted of both charges.
