Mystery Murder In Ladyville
posted (January 17, 2012)
Ladyville is one of the biggest villages in the country - in fact, its population exceeds that of Punta Gorda Town - and with the increased population comes a high crime rate.

The place is notorious for burglaries, well-known for hold-up's and, regrettably, also well known for some outlandish, unexplained murders.

And that's what police may have on their hands with last night's killing of Elvis Cowo. Cowo was stabbed in front of his house around 9:00. His family told Monica Bodden they don't know who could have wanted the 27-year old care-taker dead.

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"I can't cry because it shocks me too much."

Monica Bodden reporting
Mary Quinteros is the older sister of Elvis Cowo. She was in Corozal when she received the news that her brother had been stabbed to death.

The incident happened through Mirage Road in Ladyville around 8 last night.

27-year old Elvis Cowo was standing on the street side in front of this alley way that leads to his house - allegedly talking to his boss - when a man came up to him and stabbed him in his chest.

The deadly stab wound penetrated Cowo's heart. The blood stain on the street paints a vivid description of the amount of blood he lost.

Monica Bodden
"He was standing outside the walkway of his home when this happened last night?"

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"Yes he was just standing there."

Monica Bodden
"About what time did this happen?"

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"About 8pm."

Monica Bodden
"So, he was outside talking to his boss when this person just came up to him?"

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"The person just passed by and did it."

Nothing was stolen from him, so his family believes the stabber's intention was to kill him. For what reason, they do not know.

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"They just wanted to do it - because he did not have any problems with them. They didn't steal anything from him."

Monica Bodden
"So nothing was taken from him? It wasn't a robbery?"

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"It was not a robbery."

Cowo's family described him as a hard working young man and says they are leaving justice to God.

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"He is a good person. He doesn't fight nor does anything bad. Whoever did that to him, they don't know what they have done."

Monica Bodden
"So he doesn't hang out or anything? He has his job; he goes to work, and comes home?"

Mary Quinteros - Sister
"He goes to his job and comes back, watches TV. That's his life. I think the law will do what they can, but I think that the almighty God will do the rest."

Police do have one prime suspect detained at this time - but have not released any official report on the murder.
