Alleged Home Invader Gallego Got Chopped
posted (January 17, 2012)
21 year old Shane Gallego considers himself lucky to be alive after being viciously chopped on Saturday. The story that has gone out there is that the Maypen resident was chopped when he attempted a vicious home invasion on a family in Maskall. As the story goes, a minor fended off the home invader with a machete.

But Shane Gallego says he is not the invader, in fact, he claims he is the victim. He came to our newsroom this morning with his grandmother - and his injuries, which are substantial. He professed his innocence to us:..

Shane Gallego - Chopping Victim
"I was riding my bicycle, going to hail a friend in the other village called St. Ann's. While passing, a little bit before passing the Choc's residence, seven of them approached me from out of a fenced yard. Two of them were armed with a machete, Pedro Choc and Kevin Choc. The other five of them were just counteracting, like, interacting [with] me, counteracting me, and Kevin fired the first chop towards my head, and I put my hand, and that was when I got this cut on my hand. He fired another one for my head; I managed to swing my face. The machete just grazed under my chin, and it managed to catch me on my left shoulder. And after that, I lost a lot of blood; I collapsed on the street where the incident took place."

Jules Vasquez
"And now, the story that went out there is that you were in these people's house, and a minor is the one who defended the family against your attack."

Shane Gallego- Chopping Victim
"Yes sir. Well, I was on the road; he chopped me on the road. If I was in their house they could have killed me."

Jules Vasquez
"But you were fleeing from the house."

Shane Gallego
"No sir."

Jules Vasquez
"At any point did you have a gun? Did you threaten these people?"

Shane Gallego
"No sir. I don't have any gun; I didn't threaten these people."

Jules Vasquez
"Did you enter their property?"

Shane Gallego
"No sir."

Jules Vasquez
"But you and they must have had some kind of 'beef' (disagreement). "

Shane Gallego
"I have nothing with them. They have a little counteraction with my cousin, and they must not have managed to catch him so they caught me. I would just say I took the 'lick' (punishment) for my cousin, then."

Jules Vasquez
"Ok. Now, as far as you know, did your cousin threaten these people or go into their property?"

Shane Gallego
"I don't know that, sir. "

Gallego says he lost four pints of blood.

Ladyville Police say no one has been charged, and they are still investigating. They note the disparity in accounts, but say that so far only Shane Gallego says he was on the road - everyone else says he was in the yard. There are also bloodstains in the yard which strongly suggest that's where the stabbing occurred.
