Leroy Gomez – Another Rape Charge
posted (January 17, 2012)
24 year-old Leroy Gomez, a resident of Jasmine Street, is well-known to the courts.

In August of 2010 he was convicted in the Supreme Court of rape, robbery and aggravated assault, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

But in appeal #12 of 2010, without legal representation he was successful in convincing the Appeals Court to overturn the guilty verdict.

That overturned verdict marked the fourth time he was able to beat a rape charge. Well, Gomez still has another rape charge over his head, and what makes this one tricky is that it is tied up with another case which is currently before another Magistrate, and which involves burglary and escape from prison. Today, the prosecution objected to his bail on this remaining charge, which was alleged to have been committed late last year, on the grounds that he was remanded to prison on a burglary charge.

While Magistrate Dorothy Flowers noted the prosecution's objection, she granted Gomez a bail of $7,000 plus 1 surety. She also placed conditions on the bail.

Still, Gomez was not able to meet bail, and as a result, he is currently still on remand.
