Boco-T Sent To Jail
posted (January 20, 2012)
This afternoon, well-known Belizean tour guide, Kevin "Boco T" Myvette, was arraigned in Magistrate's Court for Escape and Obstruction. According to the court details, a woman police officer attempted to the detain Myvette at the Belize Tourism Village on Wednesday, January 18, because she suspected that he had cannabis in his possession. When the officer attempted to arrest him, Myvette allegedly resisted and tried to escape by running.

He was detained shortly after, and instead of only being searched for the controlled drug, he was charged for obstruction and escape. Myvette told Magistrate Robert Ordonez that he did obstruct the officer, but he that he couldn't plead guilty to the escape, because the officer never formally placed him under arrest. When asked if he was sure that he would maintain his not-guilty plea for escape, Myvette decided to change it, because he wanted the matter over with today.

As a result, Magistrate Ordonez sentenced him to two non-custodial sentences. Myvette was fined $250 for the escape, or 2 months in default, $300 for the obstruction, or 3 months in default, which he is to pay by February 20th. Myvette was about to go free at that point, but the usual history check showed that he owed the court $8,000 on a drug-related offense from 2007, which he also served 3 years for.

When this outstanding fine was discovered, a warrant was prepared for his immediate detention so that he could serve the default custodial sentence. So, instead of leaving the court free today, Myvette was remanded to prison for 3 years for the $8,000 he had not paid.
