Man Remanded For Bra'-lee Assault
posted (January 20, 2012)
19 year-old Esau Bainton, a cabinet maker of Perez Road, Ladyville, was arraigned in the Magistrate's Court today for aggravated assault.

According to the details as read in court, Ehud Haulze reported to police that on Monday night at 9:15, he went to visit his girlfriend at her Perez Road home, when he met Bainton, who is his brother-in-law on the street.

Haulze said Bainton cursed him out, and fearing for his life, he tried to leave. He said that Bainton followed him, and without any warning, struck him across the face with a glass cup which caused a large, deep cut wound from the left ear to his lower jaw. Police detained Bainton shortly after Haulze made his report and charged him. In court, Bainton initially pleaded guilty to the charge, but he didn't agree with all of the details. He claimed that Haulze cursed him out, and that's when he struck him with the glass.

Because he didn't agree with all the facts, the magistrate entered an equivocal plea of not guilty. The prosecution then objected to bail, but Bainton told the court that he is a first-time offender, and that he just recently got a job.

The magistrate, after considering both complainant's and the prosecution's points, decided to remand Bainton into custody. He is to return to court on January 31.
