Carlos Espat's Alleged Killer Will Face Supreme Court Trial
posted (February 3, 2012)

And while the leader of the PUP says he hasn't heard from Mark Espat - the three time Albert Area Representative was in court today to hear the preliminary inquiry into his brother Carlos' murder.

On September 4, 2010, 47 year-old Carlos Espat, the elder brother of Mark Espat, was found dead in his home on Albert Street. He had been beaten to death with a blunt object.

On January 6, 2011, 22 year-old Sylvio Espinosa, a Nicaraguan residing on Gentle Avenue, was arraigned in connection to Espat's murder.

After 13 months of adjournments, Espinosa's preliminary inquiry went to completion today before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith.

At its conclusion today, it was determined that Espinosa does have a case answer, and that there is enough evidence against him that it must proceed to the Supreme Court.

In court, Espinosa's attorney, Shaae-Ann Keddo - Ebanks, requested that the prosecution turn over evidence for their perusal. The prosecution indicated to the court that they've interviewed a large number of witnesses, but they have not finished taking down all the police statements in writing.

Espinosa's case was tentatively scheduled to begin in the Supreme Court on April 16, 2012.
