Castro Says He Gave His Green Card A Red Light
posted (February 17, 2012)
According to reports, today an objection was filed against Edmund Castro's candidacy in Belize Rural North - presumably on the basis that he is a dual national.

But is he? Well, you heard the Prime Minister speak about it - but what does Castro himself have to say?

Here's what he told an interviewer at his nomination this afternoon:

Edmund Castro - UDP Candidate, Belize Rural North
"Basically, I heard it on the radio that I am a green card holder and a US citizen. I can say categorically, that I am a Belizean. I have a passport. I have a visa in my passport, and my visa also expires in June of this year. So, I had a green card, and I gave up my green card - I think - somewhere in about 2009, because the green card was not working for me. It is difficult being a member of parliament and travelling through the US, or going to a foreign country, and not having a visa. So I gave up my green card years ago, and I have a visa so that I can travel on my diplomatic passport. Travelling with a green card, that will mean that you are a resident of the United States, and it cannot help me, so basically, the green card wasn't working for me, Jules."

Castro says he will seek to sue those who have publicly accused him of being ineligible by holding dual citizenship...
