"Rapidito" Bail For Remanded Cop
posted (February 17, 2012)
Last night we told you about Special Branch Corporal Gino Peck who, after a 3 week tug-and-war within the police department, was arraigned for illegal ammunition, which was found in a raid by the Gang Suppression Unit on February 21.

He was arraigned in front of the chief magistrate and remanded just yesterday. As we also told you, he had already hired the services of attorney Simeon Sampson, and as a result, we were expecting a speedy scheduling of his bail hearing in the Supreme Court.

What we did not expect was that his hearing would be pushed through in a matter of a little more than 24 hours.

That hearing took place before Justice Adolph Lucas today, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was represented by Crown Counsel Shamilla Williams.

In court, Williams objected to the proceeding of the bail hearing because the DPP's Office did not get the satisfactory 10-day notice as is the usual procedure with every other defendant. Williams also informed the court that she had just received the details of this particular case.

Nevertheless the hearing continued and Justice Lucas granted Peck bail citing that prior to this alleged offense, Peck is a veteran police officer with no record.

His bail came in the sum of $5,000 and with the conditions that he must return to court for the April 17 adjournment of his case. As of April 24, he also must report to the Queen Street Police Station once a week until his case is over.
