Driving a taxi is probably one of the most dangerous professions in the country. Between 2011 and the few weeks that have gone in 2012 so far, our count shows that eight taxi men have been murdered in locations all across the country.
And now, there's one more saddening statistic to add to that tragic list: Alexander Montero was killed on Saturday night in Belize City.
It was a savage slaying with a knife. Monica Bodden found out more today...

The body of 53 year old Alexander Montero was found inside his blue Honda Civic taxicab - the vehicle was parked in this empty lot behind the Lake Independence area not too far from the riverside.
He was seated in the driver's seat and stabbed up multiple times - to his face, shoulder, left side of his chest and both hands.
Inside his vehicle was spattered with blood -extending even to the windshield.
The incident happened on Saturday night around 11:50 - just minutes before midnight.

"The police came and told me that my dad was murdered in the Mahogany Extension area. I was sleeping. The police came and gave me the message. They said that they had to give the family member the message personally. It was about 2 o'clock in the morning, and they came and delivered the message. Now, it was shocking because I had just spoken to him on Sunday morning, and he was telling about plans he wanted to do with his taxi job. So I was very shocked."
According to police investigation so far - robbery does not seem to have been the motive in Saturday night's murder: Montero's wallet and other personal items were found on him.

"What the police found was the car. He was inside the car. The police found him dead inside the car, and the reports are that they didn't take anything from him. He had his wallet and everything. So, it doesn't seem to be robbery or so."
Montero was last seen on Saturday night at around 10 o'clock in front of the KHMH - According to his son, that is where he is based for his taxi services.

"What I heard, is that he was at the hospital the last time he was seen. He was at the hospital and he was there until about 10 o'clock on Saturday night, and he probably got a job - a call from there - that was the last time that anyone heard of him alive."
So that leaves everyone with one question in mind... who would want to take the life of the 53 year old taxi driver and a father of 6?

"I have no idea. I don't know him as that type of person. I know that he is a hard worker. He used to do a lot of jobs. He went into the taxi business, and he was a hustler. So, He didn't have anything with anybody. Everybody knows that he is a cool. He always run jokes with people. There was no dispute with anyone."
No one has been detained for the murder...
