Another Caught Smuggling Ganja Into Gaol
posted (February 24, 2012)
Last night, we told you about Justin Richards who was remanded for allegedly trying to smuggle weed into the Belize Central Prison. Today, another man is accused of trying to do the exact same thing; he is 28 year-old Clarence Grant, a laborer of Mahogany Heights.

Police say that at around 3 p.m. yesterday, Grant was detained at the prison while the authorities searched 2 foam containers in his possession, which according him, contained only food.

Officers eventually found about 2.96 ounces of marijuana in several small, clear plastic bags inside these containers.

As a result, he was arrested, charged, and brought to court today.

Grant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the crime - since Richards had allegedly tried to smuggle weed into the facility one day earlier.

Nonetheless, Magistrate Robert Ordonez remanded Grant until February 29. He will be brought back to hear the decision on whether or not bail will be granted.
