posted (March 9, 2012)
19 year-old Gian McFadzean, a student from Willows Bank Village, has been accused of aggravated assault against a police officer.

McFadzean, who was arraigned in Magistrate's Court today, was charged with 1 count of aggravated assault and 1 count of harm, which he allegedly committed against Police Constable Kevin Broaster.

According to police, McFadzean was at the Double Head Cabbage polling area on Election Day at around 3 p.m., where he got into an altercation with another man from the village.

When PC Broaster intervened to try to get the situation under control, McFadzean turned on him, grabbed an empty pint-bottle, and hit him behind the head with it.

McFadzean was immediately arrested and today he was brought before Chief Magistrate Anne-Marie Smith.

He pleaded not guilty, and he was offered bail of $200 cash on both charges which he had to pay forthwith in order to go home.

His bail came with the conditions that he must not interfere with the victim, PC Broaster, and he must report to the Bermudian Landing Police station every Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

He is to return to court on April 11.
