PUP "Resign" Mark And Cordel
posted (March 13, 2012)
And while the Prime Minister is using the opportunity given by his slender majority to fashion a sort of Cabinet Dream Team - the two men indirectly responsible for the UDP's March 7th. victory, Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde, have been declared persona non grata in the PUP.

Well, not quite persona non grata. In a quite tame maneuver, the party's 31 standard bearers met today in Belize City and chose not to expel the former deputy leaders but to declare that they had, quote, "effectively resigned."

Now that's taking a page out of the UDP book when it said Marcel Cardona had "constructively resigned" from the UDP - the big difference being that Cardona at the time was a setting representative.

The PUP is saying that Espat and Hyde have effectively resigned, almost two months after - they actually did! Though they didn't explicitly say they were resigning - the pair both abandoned their safe seats just after the election date was announced - leaving the UDP to win those seats for the first time in three elections.

That seemed to be an effective enough resignation, right there, but today the PUP made it official saying, quote, "that by their actions, Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde…can no longer hold any position in the Party nor run for any seat on a PUP ticket." The full release says the party's 31 Standard Bearers urged the Party to file the election petitions as soon as possible. And while there is still no official concession of defeat, the release acknowledges that the PUP received 47.1% of the total votes cast country-wide - and adds, quote "We are committed to represent the people of the 14 Constituencies who returned PUP Area Representatives."
