There was a murder in Belize City on Sunday night. It happened around 9:00 when 21 year old David Hernandez was just around the corner from his home on Berkley Street.
Hernandez was s standing on Racecourse Street, about 25 feet away from the junction of East Canal when 3 shots were heard, and he was seen collapsing to the ground.
His father told us today that he kept close tabs on his son - but that night, he feels they shot the wrong person:...

"I asked his niece where he went, she said he went with a little guy to the shop to buy. So I walked from here to the canal side to look for him, but I said I have my bike so I came back to get the bike and when I got to the gate I heard the three shot (pop, pop) but I did think it was my son. I saw one of his little friends coming from the canal direction and he said Mr. Ricky they just shot David. Then I ran to the scene but they had already taken him to the hospital. So I went to the hospital and when I got there I saw my son lying dead on the bed."

"David, told the little boy to run, and the little boy ran because David knew he didn't have anything with anybody, so they decided to shot him. (Oh my, it really hurt). He was a loving little boy and this is what I want people to know that I was a father to my boy, because everywhere about, when I came in the house the first thing I would ask is where David is. If he went out, I would jump on my bike and go and look for him, I must know where he is or what he is doing, because I wanted to know who my son is. If he is a bad son or a good son."
"I would like to tell the public not only the one that did it. Why, what reason, if they have a good reason to take away somebody life and hurt a multitude of family, over four hundred deaths, murder just for fun like shooting birds, for what reason? I like them so ask themselves if they had a reason to do it, if they don't have a heart."
