Mark King Petition Adjourned
posted (March 30, 2012)
And While Mark King dodged that election petition; he still has another one pending in the Supreme Court. It has been filed on behalf of Martin Galvez, Schakron's brother.

According to the PUP, they have filed the application for this new petition because at the time of the election, King was under a government contract, which effectively disqualifies him as a candidate.

It was to be heard in the courtroom of Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin this afternoon, but neither King nor Noreen Fairweather, who are named as respondents once again, would allow legal officers to serve them with the legal documents.

Both sides were not adequately prepared to go to court and as a result, the hearing was postponed until Tuesday.

While speaking about Schakron's failed election petition, Lisa Shoman also told us about the difficulties that they had while trying to get prepared for today.

Here's what she had to say:

Lisa Shoman
"Yesterday at 3:30, the papers arrived at my office for service to Mark King and Noreen Fairweather. Since yesterday we have been making very serious and concerted attempts to serve Mr. Mark King. He would not come out of his home to be served. He would not authorize the police to receive on his behalf."

"Finally this morning he notified that his attorney Mr. Michael Young should be served, and at 8:53 this morning, Mr. Michael Young was served on behalf of Mark King."

"Unfortunately, and I have complained to Ms. Perdomo, the crown counsel, Ms. Noreen Fairweather up to 11 o' clock had not accepted service, and so I am not sure what will happen this afternoon at 2 o' clock. I have indicated to the court that there may be some issues as to time needed, and we are prepared to do that - if fairness demands it."

"At this point in time, our next task is to satisfy the court that there is an arguable case with regard to Mark King and his personal disqualification. I think the media has every right to ask Mr. Mark King the same hard questions that you've been asking Yolanda Schakron as to the level of his disqualification, his contract ,and what that means in terms of his sitting as a member of the House of Representatives."

"We return at 2 o' clock to find out whether we proceed this afternoon or whether in fact we will afford more time to Mr. King and his attorneys to deal with the issue."

We did try to get a comment from Mark King on this new petition, but via text message, he told us that he was busy, and would not be able to speak to us today.
