One More Hattieville Homicide
posted (April 11, 2012)
Last night we told you about the deadly, tragic weekend - which claimed the lives of eight Belizeans. Well one more man died over the weekend - after he had been beaten up last week.

59 year old Jeffery Garnett - a resident of Hattiville- was badly beaten by 2 men of his village on April 3rd. One week later - which was yesterday- Garnett succumbed to his injuries at the KHMH. The incident happened in Hattieville. It is said that Garnett went looking for his son that night when he was attacked by the men at a shop.

He received a fractured skull and was in a coma for almost 7 days. His son, 20 year old Dorian Garnett was also attacked and beaten by the same two men early that day. Today Garnett's son told us the dispute which caused his father's life, was over his baby mama drama.

Dorian Garnett - Son of Deceased
"On Tuesday night, I never did reach home. My friend, Jackson and I went to Bebin shop to buy, and I met little John in the shop. So I never knew what he had planned in his mind, so I ordered bread and cheese to take home. And before I could get everything it was 'pop pop' in my head right here, they hit me repeatedly in the head."

Monica Bodden
"With a stick?"

Dorian Garnett
"With a piece of board, until it broke, the shop keeper Bin dragged him out the shop and my friend Jackson was on the street. He was also with his brother, Junior but he didn't do me nothing. He tried drag him away."

Monica Bodden
"Then after that, what happened?"

Dorian Garnett
"He still was trying to hit me, so my friend jumped in and shouted for me come out of the shop. Jackson told me to come out of the shop - not be afraid and to come out. So we headed off to the station and made a complaint. The police just sat there and didn't do anything, because of my dad; nothing happened to my dad yet. I explain to them what just happened to me in the shop, and so he said it's safe for me to go with him at his house to stay."

Monica Bodden
"So the police didn't hold anyone for what they did to you?"

Dorian Garnett
"No ma'am."

Monica Bodden
"Now night comes along, you're not at home, so that's when your dad went out to look for you?"

Dorian Garnett
"Yes ma'am, he went right out to the shop and that's where they chanced him."

Monica Bodden
"The same men?"

Dorian Garnett
"Yes ma'am."

Monica Bodden
"These guys, again, are relatives of your baby mother?"

Dorian Garnett
"Yes maam."

Monica Bodden
"Accusing you of giving her problems or-"

Dorian Garnett
"We are not like that, I don't know why they thought that my dad and me would do that little girl anything. We love the little girl; I work hard to take care of my child and my dad help me mine her too, right now it really hurt me."

Monica Bodden
"You didn't get to see your dad?"

Dorian Garnett
"No ma'am, the only time I got to see him is taking him out the house bleeding. He asked me not to take him to the hospital. I didn't don't want him die right in the house, but he seemed to want that."

Monica Bodden
"So when you took him to the hospital on Wednesday, what did the doctors say?"

Dorian Garnett
"They said his brain is damaged and, he has a lot of bruise blood in his head."

Monica Bodden
"So he was in a coma?"

Dorian Garnett
"Yes ma'am, in a coma from the Wednesday when I took him, he was in a coma until he passed away. That was yesterday, I just want to ask them why they chanced my dad. He didn't do anything to anybody."

Monica Bodden
"You want justice?"

Dorian Garnett
"Yes ma'am."

So far no one has been arrested for the murder of 59 year old Jeffery Garnett. He was the third Hattieville resident to die over the weekend - all three deaths were violent.
