And while the PSU laments about the woes of labour, City Hall wants labour day to be a day of community service. The Belize City Council is inviting all Belize City residents to take part in its first ever clean-up campaign called "Labour for Belize City 2012."

It will be start tomorrow at 6 in the morning at the San Cas Plaza.

For those willing persons, registration will take place at the San Cas Plaza where you will be assigned to a specific area to clean up along with your group. One of the coordinators of the campaign told us more.

Phillip Singh, Community Outreach Officer
"For those who don't know yet, we are planning a labour for Belize initiative. This initiative comes straight out of the 100 days plan and we are asking residents, groups to join us in this labour for Belize."

"We have several activities or cleaning up that will be happening throughout the day but the council and some schools will be on the Northern Highway and we are asking the general public to join us even if it's in front of the area they live and they want to clean."

"You come out and get a garbage bag and gloves and start to pick up some garbage, that's basic. We will have activities at Mahogany Street - the Honorable Mark King will be with his community out there on mahogany Street. We have Ms. Joan Burke from BFLA, she has a community group that will be doing work at Mopan Street. We have Ms. Sedacy who will be doing work on New Road and Pickstock Street."

"We have a variety a group and businesses also that will be partaking; we have the Radisson that will be doing a general cleanup of their own area; the Marine Parade and Cork Street area."

"So it will be a wonderful event and we are asking all residents on the city to join us."

The cleanup campaign starts at 6 in the morning and wraps up at midday. Snacks will be provided.
