Nurses Pampered
posted (May 17, 2012)
This week is being celebrated as Nurse's Week. It kicked off on Saturday with a nurse's conference and throughout this entire week, activities are taking place at health institutions countrywide to honor and appreciate our nurses.

One of those activities at the KHMH is a spa day - where nurses got to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere while being pampered. Monica Bodden got an invitation.

Monica Bodden reporting
There's not much argument that nurses have one of the most important jobs.

Their profession alone focuses on the care of every individual to attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life.

Nurses are on call 24 hours a day, including all major holidays.

So a week of pampering and showing appreciation to our nurses is more than well deserved.

As nurse's week continues, the nurses at the KHMH got pampered today with a spa room.

Sheena Garnett - Public Relations Officer, KHMH
"Today we transformed our conference into a spa and I am sure you've seen it deck out with nice soft music. we have the lovely ladies from YWCA here doing back, foot and hand massages. You will experience that yourself."

"Of course we finish it with a little piña colada for our nurses."

And even my media colleague and myself got to enjoy a real relaxing treat as the young ladies from the YWCA hooked us both up with some massages.

And even though it was a day of pampering - that didn't stop the hospital from operating as any ordinary day.

Sheena Garnett - Public Relations Officer, KHMH
"What happens its patients first. It stated at 9 and its going through to 3:30 today. So, they deal with their patients and whenever they have a break they come for a quick massage - less than 15 minutes and they would go back to their units and it's all day, so they can come 4-5-7 times as long as they are done with their work first and then come here."

"So we are bringing the pleasure machine per se to them."

Jolene Moody - Nurse, Surgical Ward
"This is wonderful, I wasn't expecting this today. This is a good treat for me this morning."

"It's not like we get this every day, so to be able to get this treat this morning, its wonderful for the staff. We can get it every day - I don't mind." (Smiling)

"Today was special, we work hard and so to have this opportunity is wonderful for us."

Nurses Week is being celebrated under the theme " Closing the gap from evidence to action".
