Jose Shoman Had To Be Ready For Whatever
posted (May 25, 2012)
Tonight, 23 year old Norman Slusher is in police custody pending charges for murder and attempted murder. Slusher is the man accused of killing Jason Canto at barbershop in Belize City two weeks ago.

He hasn't been charged yet - because he was only just released from the hospital. He has been recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdominal area.

Those shots were fired by a businessman, Jose Shoman, who was defending himself - after Slusher and another man charged into the barbershop with guns.

Slusher and his accomplice could have been trying to pull off a very daring hit, or could have been going to rob the bejeweled Shoman, but as we'll show you tonight, they crossed paths with a man, who had to be on guard at all times - even when he was at a canal side barbershop.

Here's the story:..

Jules Vasquez reporting Jose Shoman is probably the only Belizean - and certainly the only wealthy Belizean - who has ever come forward to publicly expose a plot to harm his family:

(December 15, 2008)
"They would have gained entry by force, try to have everyone tied up and then robbed for what they can and then after that then wouldn't leave any witnesses; they would have started with my children, my wife, and the rest of the family. This isn't something to be taken lightly."

Supt. Julio Valdez, CIB
"And the plan was also to in the event that no valuables were found there, their intention was to kill a member of the family to let them see that they are serious"

"But incredibly the murderous plot was discovered and dismantled before it could have been carried out - and the alleged conspirators were jailed."

Shoman and his family were spared, and - since the man who hatched the plot was his employee - he had a cautionary tale:

Jose Shoman
"My case is disgruntled workers that has been around and I believe they feel that I have valuables, I have money, which I don't keep in my home, and they probably felt that this is a good place to come and hit. So beware everyone that is out there because if you work there and have a nice home, perhaps you might be the next target for your hard work."

But Shoman may have been the target on the night Of Thursday May 10th at Dale Barber Shop,- but this time, he was with an employee who he could trust - literally with his life.

He was inside the Barber Shop getting a trim - accompanied by his personal bodyguard Jason Canto.

At 7:50, a gunman strode into the shop - no one can say for sure if Shoman was his target but Canto ended up taking the bullet.

His mother exploded in grief - wanting to see her son's body. A sight, which only induced more wailing.

Shoman - who is standing there with his back to the camera - never got his trim that night

He stood in front of Canto's Jeep Liberty - no doubt shocked that he survived - in a very tight spot where there was a crossfire - and 2 other men in the store were shot.

The scene recorded an extraordinary number of expended shells - we saw 27 markers.

One of the assailants, Norman Slusher was injured when Shoman pulled his licensed 9mm Glock pistol and opened fire.

Slusher is in the hospital pending charges and is expected to be charged when he is released.

Shoman of course had to be on guard - three years ago - in relation to the incident with his house, he admitted he was under threat by the men he had brought charges against in 2008:

(April 22, 2009)
Jose Shoman,

"I have been threatened. Yes it has been documented, it certainly has been documented. I have received phone threats, I've received text messages threats, and saying that I should desist."

3 zfl, 3 Winchester. 9 aguila brand 9 mm expended, 3 copper slug, 2 gold slugs, 1 metal fragment, 4 Winchester, 1 devil's cap .9mm live round, cz2075 ramy 9 by 19.9 mm, along with magazine, containing 1 9 by 19 black glock, 8

Jose Shoman,

"I have been threatened. Yes it has been documented, it certainly has been documented. I have received phone threats, I've received text messages threats, and saying that I should desist - they think I have brought the charges on them, they put themselves where they are right now, and if I don't desist, me and my family will come to harm."

Slusher was discharged from the hospital earlier this week - and Police say he remains in custody pending charges.
