"At this time we are inviting people to submit themes for this year's celebration. This year will mark the 214th Anniversary of the Battle of St. George's Caye and the 31st Anniversary of Independence. We encourage everybody from near and far to submit themes. The theme can no more than 10 words; it can be about anything, this year we are celebrating the Maya culture. 21st September is the International Day of Peace and you can talk about contribution to Belize's development from various cultural groups and you can talk about anything - aspirations for Belize as a nation. At this time we are encouraging people to submit their themes and you can email it to septembercelebrationsbze@yahoo.com or you can drop it off here at the House of Culture or at any of the district town councils."

"We also want to encourage people to send in their applications for events for the month of September to be included in the September celebrations calendar of activities. Plans are on the way for the celebrations. We are gearing up, we are very excited about it and so we are encouraging people, if you want your particular activity to be included in the calendar then now is the time to submit."

The winner, apart from recognition during the September celebrations, will win BZD$1000. Last year's theme was: "Honoring our histories, celebrating our cultures, uniting in peace."
