Gunman Who Allegedly Shot Guyanese Gets Off
posted (June 12, 2012)
2 and a half hours ago, 23-year-old Tarique "Paulie" Cadle, the man who was accused of the attempted murder of 52 year-old Guyanese national, Lyndon Jeffery, walked out of court a free man after he was acquitted before Justice Herbert Lord.

The prosecution, which was represented by Crown Counsels Trienna Young and Meagan Francis, was unable to call the victim, Jeffery, to testify against Cadle because he went back to his home country.

However, they were able to get Jeffery's written statement admitted into evidence.

In this statement, Jeffery told police that on August 23, 2009, he was riding his bicycle home after leaving a friend's house, when 2 men began chasing him on bicycle until they caught up to him at the corner Neal's Penn and Kraal Roads.

Jeffery said that Cadle, who he only identified as "Paulie", pulled out a gun and fired a shot at him, which hit him in the left upper arm.

When the prosecution closed their case, Cadle, who was unrepresented, gave an unsworn statement that he wasn't even at the area at the time of this shooting. He also asked the jury not to believe the statement from Jeffery because he wasn't even in court to accuse him personally, nor to defend the statement.

The jury deliberated for 3 hours and 20 minutes, but they could not come back with a unanimous verdict, so as a result, Justice Lord ordered them to take more time.

They deliberated for a little over a half hour more, and when they returned, they acquitted Cadle of attempted murder, and as a result, he walked out of court a free man.
