Gilroy Usher Jr. Responds To Police
posted (August 7, 2012)
Last night on the news we told you about Gilroy Usher Juniour - the owner of First Stop Pawn Shop who was charged for fighting with a police officer.

He spent the weekend in police lockdown after allegedly assaulting a court bailiff, and one of the police officers stationed at the Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Reports are that Usher made certain comments and pulled up his shirt to show the bailiff his licensed firearm. Police Constable Edgar Poot tried to de-escalate the situation by escorting Usher outside.

According to police, Usher started to struggle with PC Poot, and he end up punching the officer in the right side of his face. Usher then reportedly reached for his firearm which fell to the ground. PC Poot, fearing for his life, struggled with Usher and prevented him from retrieving the firearm, until other officers got involved.

They secured the firearm, arrested Usher, and charged him with 2 counts of aggravated assault, and 1 count of harm.

That's the official story - but today Usher gave us a very different version. Here's what he had to say in defence of his actions:...

Jules Vasquez
"Is this true?"

Gilroy Usher Jr.
"Absolutely not Jules."

Jules Vasquez
"But it can't just be made up. What happened?"

Gilroy Usher Jr.
"It's totally made up. I went to the bailiff's office to take out 2 commitment warrants. Mr. Casey was not in the office, another young man who was in the office was facilitating me. A moment later Casey arrives, he and I got into a discussion about some cases that he was supposed to deal with for me. I ask Mr. Casey that I wanted to know what is the update of the cases. He looks at me and says 'cases? me? I don't know about any cases.' I told him boss you already said that you were going to deal with these things, like you are trying to take me for a fool. The man said 'bredda, if you noh like the way I di deal with your things dem, go to the Chief Magistrate.' So I told him that it's not the Chief Magistrate who is serving the summons, it's you."

"After that I said certain things to the man. At the climax of the argument he looked at me and said ' boy you don't know me, you don't know my past, I could mek dem shot up yuh house, in fact get the f*** out of the office.' At this time he jumped up and tried to put me out of the office. When he came towards me and grab me in my shirt, I push the man. He fell on a desk and picked up an object and came back towards me with this object. At this time I grab him around his neck and he was wailing the object at my face."

"This time PC Poot came in and hit me in the back. I felt him grab me around the neck and I felt two other punches in my back, so I release Casey. When I release Casey, Poot slam me against the wall and then slam me on the desk. I offer no resistance because he is a police officer. When the situation calmed down he told me to get out of the office and Casey said that I am not going anywhere because I will spend the weekend because he will press charges for the fight."

"At this time I began gathering myself because I had lost all my belongings; my phone was lost, papers in my pocket was lost and my gun had fell. During the struggle I felt my gun slipping from my side and I felt it hot my ankle. I don't know where the gun got to after that. So when I pick up the cell phone and the papers I told Poot I can't find my gun. So I began looking around the office to find the gun. I notice the gun was under a desk, he told me not to touch the gun. He went there and he scoops out the gun with his feet and held it at his feet at the office door and he told me to stay in the office because I was under arrest until the mobile came."

"I heard one of the police officers who had come to the office said the mobile come. When the officer said that, I don't know what got into Poot. He, all of a sudden just grab me and pull me forward causing me to hit my face against the edge of the door. So I step back and ask him what was going on. At this time the man made an attempt to grab me again and when he grabs me I punch the man in his face. He releases me and the officers from the mobile came up and he handed them the gun and told them to give me the gun at the station and they should hold me there because I will be charge for assaulting Mr. Casey and assaulting PC Poot. I was detained for aggravated assault and locked up."

Jules Vasquez
"For 60 hours?"

Gilroy Usher Jr.
"For 60 hours yes."

Jules Vasquez
"You are a former law enforcement officer, now you are an entrepreneur. This must have been a humiliating experience."

Gilroy Usher Jr.
"It was Jules, it was a humiliating experience because the cell was very filthy, there were feces everywhere and urine everywhere and they gave us disinfectant to suppress the scent but it was very unbearable in deed."

Jules Vasquez
"Regards of what happen in court, anybody who sees you will say 'he pull a gun in court building.' Is this something that concerns you?"

Gilroy Usher Jr.
"It did concern me and that's why I saw the need to do this interview to let the general public understand that I never used any obscene language towards the gentleman and I never made any attempt to touch my firearm."

Usher IS OUT ON $3,000 dollars bail and returns to court on September 24.

He says he is still waiting to get his licensed 9mm pistol back - and stresses that he was not charged for assaulting the officers with a firearm.
