Alleged Serial Rapist Gets Years Behind Bars
posted (August 8, 2012)
Leroy Gomez, the man who was convicted a second time of rape and robbery will spend 15 years in jail.

Viewers will remember that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions asked the court to consider giving him a life sentence. Justice Adolph Lucas gave them until today to provide legal grounds for him to make that decision.

The adjournment of that mitigation hearing was held today - and Justice Lucas rejected the Crown Counsel Trienna Young's submissions that Gomez should get life.

But he did sentence Gomez to spend 15 years for the rape conviction, and an additional 15 years for the robbery conviction. Both sentences are to run concurrently, meaning that he will only spend 15 years total, which takes effect as of July 31.

As we reported, his victim, a 27 year old mother of 2, testified for the prosecution last week that she was walking on Administration Drive when Gomez rode up to her on bicycle and pulled out a brown and black object from his side that resembled a firearm.

She said Gomez stole her fake diamond ear rings and her cell phone, and he then forced her to get onto the bar of the bicycle at gunpoint. Gomez then allegedly took her to the veranda of a house, raped her, and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
