Baby Kaylee's Aunt Detained For Her Death
posted (September 11, 2012)
On Saturday the funeral for two year old Baby Kaylee Burgess was held in Ladyville.

The families from both sides of her family gathered to bury her two days after what would have been her birthday. And, very likely, one of the family members who was at that funeral will be charged for murder or conspiracy.

It is an almost unbelievable turn in what is one of the saddest stories we've ever reported. It started on Wednesday of last week when Kevin Burgess alleged that his common-law Diedre Pratt had burned down his house. But according to police forensic pathologist Dr. Mario Estradabran, when the news aired that night, Kaylee was likely already dead - and she didn't drown; he found that someone had suffocated her.

And so now murder is the case - and today Ladyville police took the child's 19 year old aunt into custody in Ladyville; she is Diedre Pratt's younger sister.

She is being investigated and may be charged tomorrow - but until then speculation about who killed the child and when continues to swirl.

It adds greater grief to an already unimaginable tragedy - and today Monica Bodden spoke to Kaylee's paternal grandmother who explained why the post mortem result has led to even greater speculation:...

Caroline Quilter - Grandmother of Deceased
"I just saw Kaylee the day that she was buried - that was on Sunday and when I looked at little Kaylee - she doesn't look like her to me. Her whole feature had change, she was blue and her mouth was dark blue and her nails were also blue."

"We are not sure. According to Dr. Estradabran - what we were told is that Kaylee died about aroud 6pm but the investigation continues because of the food that was still in Kaylee's stomach - with the food in her stomach it seems that she died earlier than 6pm. From what I know is that if you eat a certain time the food at least takes like 3 hours to digest and with Kaylee - the food haven't digest from her stomach."

"They found some carrots and some ocro settled inside her stomach."

Charges are expected to be brought against at least one and possibly more than one member of the mother's family tomorrow. It is important to note that Dr. Estradabran's places the time of death at 6:00 pm - when Kaylee's mother, father and maternal grandmother were all detained.

And in a story that needs no more drama; there is more: On Friday evening, police had to be called to Dr. Mario Estradabran's house in Ladyville, where members of the mother family had gathered and Estrabran perceived a threat. The responding officer, Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood told us when he got there - the family left immediately - and he assigned an officer to watch the house.
