Man Knocked Down/Killed On Way To Work
posted (September 11, 2012)
Thanks to a strong police presence, the weekend was mostly violence free in the city; there are no reports of anyone being shot or killed.

But there was loss of life: two tragic events in which one city resident was knocked down while another drowned. We start with the security guard who was knocked down as he rode to work.

It happened on Saturday evening at around 5:15 pm. 25 year old Shane Dougal who works for Harpy Security was riding from his home on George Street to work in Ladyville was knocked down at mile five on the Northern Highway.

He suffered massive head trauma and died shortly after being hit.

Police have released the name of the driver as Jason Roney Castillo, a 21 year old fitness trainer. But Shane Dougal's mother says they have been receiving mixed messages from police - and that worries her. She told us about her concerns:..

Sarita Pitts, mother of deseased
"I love my two kids, they don't live with me and he is my baby and it hurts me very much. I understand that God - is his choice to take him home and I can't fly-up in his face but its hurts me because when I went to the Ladyville police station and I ask them if they had a witness and they told me yes. The next day my husband call (that was Sunday) and Mr. Moreno says that they don't have no eyewitness, so it's confusing. When we went to the station they say that they don't have anyone hold for it. After that the police officer told us that they are not sure if it was the guy who was driving the vehicle."

"If they are not sure if it was the guy who was driving the vehicle then the guy who owns the vehicle knows who was driving it."

Wayne Pitts, Stepfather of deceased
"They told us that they had someone when it happens and now they don't have anyone. We ask if the person have been charge and the police man told us that the case is under investigation, it has to go through the DPP to tell them if the driver is to be charged."

"A person has loss his life - the main thing is that we know accidents happen and we cannot dictate what would happen to us when we go out there but just to come and sympathize with us - to let us have closure to this story would have been great."

Sarita Pitts, mother of deseased
"To the person who knock down Shane Dougal, you who knock him down will have live with my son against you because you are going to back my son with you until the day God ready to call you home. I don't have no hate against the driver but at least show some manners and make the closure. I can't fight it if the case goes to the court - I will leave everything to God but it just makes me feel like you have a very cold heart. I want to know what type of blood is running through you because nobody can say anything bad about my baby Shane Dougal. I am the mother of Shane Dougal and I leave everything is God's hands. My son spirit will be on you until the day you die because you didn't have any manners. To the police - you all got me confuse, that's all I got to tell you all because it seems like you guys can't get the facts right."

Police say A Notice of Intended Prosecution has been served on Jason Castillo - but he has not yet been formally charged.
