Sr. Supt. Williams Says Hyde Knows Where Guns Are
posted (September 11, 2012)
And tonight we have the other side of a story that made the news on Friday. Russell Hyde - who was released on bail from a kidnapping charge came to our studios to profess his innocence and to demonstrate that he was being set up by police.

He had a secret recording of an exchange with former Officer Commanding Cayo Chester Williams. In it, Hyde discusses a sawed off shotgun and a nine millimeter pistol which Williams has asked him to recover. If he does recover it, Williams seems to promise that Hyde will get back his SUV which has been impounded as evidence.

Today we spoke to Williams in Barbados where he is in law school. He told us there was nothing irregular about his conversation with Hyde:..

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams
"He came requesting to get his vehicle back and I told him I said that you have been accused of breaking and entering into the home of Mr. Johnson during which two firearms was stolen and he came and ask me what was the description of the firearms and I told him that I didn't know but I can contact someone who knows the description."

"Even before I was able to contact that person Mr. Hyde could have able to give me the full description, caliber, type and everything of those firearms which clearly shows that he has knowledge as to the whereabouts of those firearms. I told him I said if you want to get your vehicle back I would like for you to assist me in recovering back the two firearms which have been stolen from the home of Mr. Johnson. He said that yes he can assist in the recovery of the firearm because he knew exactly who has the firearm."

"We basically we engage in a negotiation which as far as I am concern is nothing illegal and I must say that the negotiation that I was involve in with him I inform the minister of it and I also inform the commissioner likewise Sgt. Pott who was the case investigating officer which goes to show that I have no intent of trying to venture into unscrupulous behavior with Mr. Hyde and my sole and primary interest was to recover back those firearms out of the hands of Mr. Hyde because to have someone using firearms is dangerous for any society in Belize."

Williams told us that Hyde's SUV has to be processed - and it is also being investigated in connection with another crime - and will be released after that.
