Kaylee's Mom Wants Someone Charged For Her Baby's Death
posted (September 17, 2012)
Baby Kaylee Burgess was killed 12 days ago - and still no one has been charged for her murder.

The tragedy has destroyed and divided her mother's family - and tonight the mother of the child is asking for someone to be charged - even if it is one of her own family members.

Here's what she told Monica Bodden today:...

Deidra Pratt, mother
"I am really upset that Kevin and I haven't get our justice from our daughter as yet because I think the police are working a little bit too slow for my baby to get justice. We have meetings from the police and we have concrete evidence to show that my daughter was murdered. There are concrete evidence to charge someone for my daughter murder and nothing has been done as yet. Its 12 days that my daughter passed away and like what Kevin says that all we are heard what the police is that the file is at the DPP office and it's up to her now."

"We are turning to the media because we are not getting fair justice of Kaylee's death. "

Reporter
"You feel that there is a cover-up that has happen?"

Deidra Pratt, mother
"I feel that it's a cover-up for everybody; my family and the police and everything because we just get certain information saying that one of my family members has been involve with someone from the police department recently, so it's like they are going lenient on my baby killer. They are giving me my fair justice that I want and I just want the fair justice."

"First of all what I have to say is that when I left my house on the Wednesday morning my daughter was in the care of sister. How will they release my sister and she was in care of my daughter. I trust her enough to leave her in care of my daughter and Wednesday night I found out that my daughter is dead. It's like they are not doing enough that they are supposed to do and I think they are not questioning her enough and they are not pushing it enough for them to know what happen with my little girl that day at that house because she must know something. I say that my sister is covering up for somebody or for herself in that house. That's what I can plainly say that it's a family cover-up and the police department is also backing them because they are not pushing for my baby murder as much as they could because they have all the power to do what they can do. I don't think they are exhausting those powers enough to find my daughter killer."

"Even if she (sister) doesn't have anything to do with my baby's death she knows something because my daughter would have cry. Another thing that I have to say is that when my mom and I found my daughter she was mess-up, so they weren't taking care of my baby as how they should. I believe some kind of conflict went on between she and her boyfriend and out of rage they kill my daughter and they panic and they call my mom, so I believe something in that way all my family members know exactly what happen to my daughter."

"On my personal belief I believe they kill my daughter out of frustration and rage. Nobody wants to say anything. I have certain comment from certain family members saying that 'leave the police to do their job, you don't push anything. God will deal with it in his own way.' and they are still trying to convince me that my daughter drowned and I personally saw evidence, saw concrete evidence saying that my daughter did not drown. I know for a fact that she was murdered and I know that my family knows what going on and they refuse to say anything."

Kevin Burgess, Father
"We want to see that someone pays for it - someone face the consequence because they are handling it like an ordinary case like a broken window or something, even the broken window for me they took more serious. I want justice for my daughter and quickly because it getting out of hand now and nothing is not coming through. So far we are still waiting on the DPP."

Deidra Pratt, mother
"I also want if that person have a heart they know that all Kaylee do in that house is bring joy and happiness to everybody, she make everybody laugh. The person who is responsible for my daughter's death - they just throw my baby in that bucket of water like she never had a life and as if she was nothing to nobody. I am pleading to this person or whosoever it is if they have heart - let us have a closure to this case because we know that Kaylee is our guardian angel now and it would be more better if she was here with us right now that not being with us. I just want the police to try harder because I know they can try harder. I just want them to try harder to find out what happen to my baby because I am the mother and I've been in Belize City and in Ladyville police stations and they show me so many evidence about my little girls case and nothing is being done. I don't want my baby case to go just like that and I will not rest. I will try everything that I could. If that person has a heart and say that they love my little mama as much as they say they love her - give me and her father a closure to this."

"Before even finish Fitzroy Yearwood said that they suspect foul play. So what are they waiting on to charge somebody? My daughter was left in the care of my sister. Why are they waiting to charge somebody? They have concrete evidence and certain police in the meeting that I had -all the police told me Tuesday morning that they have the evidence see, look at the evidence here, this is the evidence. Only one of those two persons that they say they would pick up they pick up. They did not pick up two of them, only one. That was it, nothing else happen. I didn't hear any interrogation from my sister because my sister is the main suspect in my daughter case. In my heart I know that she either did it or had something to do with it. She is covering up for someone."

"Everything that we did in the station - my family knows before I came out of the station. Everything I do in Belize City CIB office my family knows before I even step out and they tell me right away why am I pushing this thing for, like it is not my daughter. It has some involvement in something with the police department not doing their full job."

No one has been charged because the DPP has given police instructions to do further investigations - which means collect statements from other persons who may be witnesses.

As we understand it - there is a witness who saw how the child was killed but that person is a minor.

So, officially, the investigation is ongoing - as the DPP cannot yet make a determination on who to charge based on the information gathered thus far.
