15 Year Old Allegedly Shot At Cop
posted (September 18, 2012)
Tonight a 15 year old Belize City resident is facing one charge for shooting a police officer - and another set of charges for pointing a gun at others.

But the teenager is also in the hospital recovering after he was shot by police.

They say the minor did it with this gun - a chrome 38 revolver - which has been recovered.

The incident occurred around 10:00 last night on Vernon Street.

That's when Police Corporal DANIEL FLOWERS got home and parked his car in his fenced yard near Vernon Street. He shut his gate and was walking into his house when he heard a male voice calling him.

He turned to see who it was and he saw a minor with whom he'd had a misunderstanding a few minutes earlier. The minor fired a single shot at him but missed. The youth then jumped on a bicycle, raced off towards Ebony Street making good his escape.

A GSU patrol happened to be on an operation a block away. They heard the gunshot and chased the gunman, who turned out to be the minor, a 15 year old who by this time was racing off towards Partridge Street. They caught up to him at the corner of Vernon and Partridge Street Extension which is after Cox tire shop and police say the minor turned around and pointed a gun at the officers in the GSU mobile.

The police then fired at him - shooting him twice: once in the thigh and once above his left knee. They say they found this revolver with 1 expended shell next to him.

The minor is of a Periwinkle Street address, and was taken to the KHMH where he was treated and released into police custody.

He has since been arrested and charged for Kept Firearm without a gun license and six counts ofAggravated Assault for allegedly pointing his gun at the police. We add though that it escapes us why he would bother to point a gun at a truck full of police when that gun had only one expended shell in it.

But that's not the end of it for this youth; he also has to be charged for shooting at the Corporal who is attached to the Anti-Drug Unit.

And so, additional charges of Aggravated Assault will also be levied against him.

The GSU says the minor is a member of the PIV gang.
