Woman Claims Police Falsely Imprisoned Her Husband
posted (September 18, 2012)
Every night on the news - we report on accused persons being taken to Magistrate's Court and automatically remanded because the offence that they are charged with involves a gun.

Well, that's just the situation that 38 year-old David Wade, a resident of Iguana Street Extension, and 33 year-old George Young a resident of Raccoon Street are in, and they are currently spending their second night in prison for it.

They were arraigned yesterday for aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. According to police, on Saturday they went to Dorain Polanco's house, on Neal Pen Road, armed and with the intention to harm him.

As a result, police arrested and charged both men with aggravated burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

They were remanded to prison yesterday, and will be brought back to court on October 17 for their next adjournment, but Wade's wife says that her children can't wait 90 days to have their father home to support them.

She came to speak to us today, and she told us that the gun allegation was brought into the story out of pure mischief to get her husband and the next accused man in prison.

Here's how she explained how the incident took place:

Natalie Cadle - Wife of David Wade
"I am speaking for David Wade because that is my husband, and I came to say that it's really wrong what the police did when they charged him with burglary. In the first place, there was no burglary. Yes, they went to the young man's house, and they knocked on the door, and they opened the door - my husband, David Wade and another young man. The young man told me when I went to his house personally; David Wade didn't hit him any at all. I don't know if the other guy hit him, but the young man said that David Wade didn't touch him, and there was no gun. I don't know who made up the story that there was a gun. Ever since the law came out about gun and going straight to jail, people began to be mischievous and they are quick to say that gun was involved to force people to go to jail. That is wrong because you know what; I am not vouching for David Wade like that. He associates with all types of people, both good and bad, and if people want to be truthful, they will admit that he is not that kind of person. I am here because I am now in frustration. I have 2 children; I have this baby here, and he is 2 years-old. I also have my daughter who is 6 year-old. I just lost my job at the Belize Times, and my husband just recently got a job 2 months ago. It was he who was providing for us. So, I want someone in authority to listen to me to go and walk through the situation. I need them to get him out so that he can be here for the 2 kids and for me. I have no money because I am not even working. I can't go and get a lawyer to try to get him out."

According to Cadle, she went with the complainant, Dorain Polanco, to the police station before the charges were brought, and Polanco went specifically to withdraw the charge but the investigating officer ignored that request and brought the charges anyway.

While the arraignment was taking place, Polanco did also get up and try to address the magistrate to withdraw the charges again, but because this is not protocol in court, the magistrate did not grant him an audience, much less entertain him.

He did speak to us outside of court also, and he claims that there was no gun involved, and the incident was only just a fist fight.
