Man Accused Of Rape

Tonight, 29 year-old Darrell Gray, a carpenter of Flamboyant Street, is on remand after it was alleged that he abducted a 15 year-old female at gunpoint, kidnapped her and raped her.

Today, at the police press briefing, Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood told us more about how it happened:

"A 15 year old student of Belize City is reporting that she was rape and kidnapped etc. on the 28th September, 2012. She is saying that around 9pm she was visiting some relatives not too far from her home when she was approached by a dark complexion male on bicycle. This person began a conversation with her. She realizes that the conversation was going in a bad direction and she tried to walk off hurriedly. This person took out a handgun, placed on her side and forced her on the bicycle and took her to a 2 storey abandoned house in that area where he forced her to remove her clothing and he had sexual intercourse with her against her will."

"She was taken a medical officer where she was examine. The doctor did confirm that she was carnally known. Police investigations lead to the detention Darrell Gray, 29 years, carpenter of #4B Flamboyant Street where he has since been arrested and charged for 1 count of kidnapping, account of rape and account of carnal knowledge. He is expected to be arraigned this morning in the Magistrate court here in Belize City."

As noted in the interview, Gray was charged with kidnapping, rape and unlawful carnal knowledge. He was arraigned this morning before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, and due to nature of the offences, no plea was taken and no bail was offered.

Gray was remanded to prison until his next court date, which is set for November 12.
