Tourism Workers Get That Paper
posted (May 18, 2005)

Paper, it's what everyone's trying to get in a credential obsessed work environment, and today 105 tourism industry employees got it. They were certified in areas ranging from supervisory management of hotels, to cleaners of those hotels. Those large and small strokes are all part of the Tourism Training Unit's ongoing education programme and one new bartender, Renny Riverol told us it makes sense to him.

Renny Riverol, Certified Bartender
"These trainings help me in bringing exceptional services to guests which in the end bring satisfied guests. As a result we get more guests, more tourists."

Dr. Vincent Palacio,
"We're young in the industry here in Belize. We're working on it. We're at entry now and we must continue to train. We must continue to conduct our public relations campaign. We have this real good one that states tourism is our business and its for all of us. So we all need to get involved. We need to bombard it from all level and you'll see that maybe the attitude and behavior will change and we'll get to the level like these places you mention, the Yucatan etc. But we do have the amenities and the human resources, it's just a matter of building it to get to that level. We continue to show people this is business: you invest in it, you are nice to the tourists, they come back, more money gets made, and that's the nature of the industry."
