Foreign Minister Wilfed Elrington was in Guatemala City today for a high level meeting with his Guatemalan counterpart Harold Caballeros and the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza.
They were meeting with the Group of Friends for the Belize-Guatemala differendum process.
According to an OAS release, "the foreign ministers reported on the status of the talks between Belize and Guatemala on the territorial dispute, and they requested support from the international community to refer the dispute to the International Court of Justice, once referendums the issue are held in both countries in October 2013."
Tomorrow, Secretary General Insulza will visit Belize where he will meet with Prime Minister Barrow, Foreign Minister Elrington, National Security Minister John Saldivar and leader of the opposition, Francis Fonseca.
