Nine Year Old "Standee" Falls From Moving Bus
posted (October 31, 2012)
Tonight a 9 year old is at the KHMH with serious injuries after falling from a moving bus this afternoon.

This Afternoon at About 4:15, the standard four Holy Redeemer student was jammed into the back an overcrowded bus - when the back door flung open - and he tumbled out unto the Northern highway at mile 7.

It's a terrible accident and the kind you always fear might happen when you look at those jam packed busses.

Our news team came on the scene at mile 7 on the northern highway minutes after the accident occurred.

Here's the story:

Jules Vasquez Reporting

Nine year old Holy Redeemer Primary School student Martin Noble lay sprawled out on the road with a passerby trying to keep the child conscious.

His older brother Mauricio kneeled beside him trying to help as well:

Dennis Gabourel - Arrived On The Scene
"He was on the ground, I asked the child what's his name. He responded with his name, which allowed me to realize that he was still conscious, because I do CPR too. And, you know, it tears me apart."

As Gabourel said, Martin - who wa sheadign to his home in Lord's Bank - was flung out of the back of an overcrowded bus and hurled unto the highway - into the path of oncoming traffic.

Voice of: Eyewitness
"The bus was actually over-filled with children. A lot of children were behind the bus, and before reaching mile 7, we noticed that the door just popped open, and one of the kids actually flew out of the back of the bus."

Dennis Gabourel
"I was right behind the bus. It overtook me on the road, and suddenly, I saw this kid on the road. I was right behind, and I had to dash off the road to avoid him. I stopped the vehicle, jumped out, grab the child, and tried to help him. There were a bunch of kids behind the bus door. My girlfriend even said, 'My God, look at that bus that is running with all those children behind it.' It is mean it's something very dangerous. The Government has got to do something about this because I could have run over that child, and that would have torn me apart."

Regretaably it is the sort of accident that was waiting to happen:

Dennis Gabourel
"You see all this blood on my hands? I had to assist because I would have run over that kid, it would have torn me apart. It would have killed me. It is not fair. The Government has got to do something about these overloaded buses. It is not fair to our children."

The Haylock's bus stopped hundreds of feet up the road.

The ambulance arrived about 15 minutes later - as they were stuck in the traffic that had stopped moving - and as they were about to put him in the ambulance his mother Diana Noble arrived and left with her sons in the ambulance.

That information about the child's condition comes from his father Fortunato Noble. He tells us also that his son sustained server abrasions and massive facial injuries. But again, a CATSCAN shows that there does not appear to be brain damage or swelling of the brain.

Monica Bodden spoke to Fortunato Noble a short while ago at the KHMH - and we'll have that interview for you a little later on in the news.
